Story of Dungkar Thang:

Dungkar Thang a beautiful place located few meters away from Doksum town toward Gomphu  Kora on the high way of Trashi Yangtse to Tashigang and on the side of Drangmi chu has beautiful story and we can also see two Dungkar(Conch) on the rock cliff opposite of Dungkar Thang other side of Drangmi chu.

The two Conch

It was said that at present location so called Dungkar Thang, there was a mortar made up of stone and inhabitants there had been using that stone mortar to husk the paddy. When people pound one bowl (བྲེ) of paddy, they used to get exactly one bowl (བྲེ) of rice. It was such blessing for the locality. As days passed by there was one man out of his cruel mind wants to own the stone mortar for himself. When he topple the stone mortar he saw two Dungkar (Conch) flew from the bottom of stone mortar and rested on the rock cliff other side of the present place called Dungkar Thang. Now a days on that site you will see some settlement which are occupied by the Public Work Division (PWD) workers. The Dungkar (Conch) which was rested on the cliff can be still seen from the road which is passed through Dungkar Thang. The name of the place inborn from that episode and is called as Dungkar Thang (Dungkar: Conch and Thang: Ground).
