Pudendum (The Legend of Ngangkhar)

When you travel through Trashi Yangtse and Trashigang High way above lies ruin of the Ngangkhar village and Ngangkhar is a village ruin located on the foot of present Jamkhar geog. While travelling through the high way when you reached at Tsergom, one can see big rock cliff and if one observe wisely one will grasp a scarce crack on a rock surface and the fissure look a lot like female pudendum (Female genital).

The tale surrounding the infamous cliff has several version of its own, none of which has been documented and record officially. Since it transmit a story, eyewitnesses are charmed by it.  The one of the famous story shared by the elder of jamkhar and is widely accepted among the geog, the pudendum is known by two names as Jamkhar Ama Baga (The Pudendum of the Lady of Jamkhar) or as Ngangkhar Ama Baga (The Pudendum of the Lady of Ngangkhar).

Native folks show great worship to the pudendum. It’s said the Lady of Ngangkhar cut her own pudendum and threw it at the rock surface.

The woman by quality of espousing a great status gentleman called Ngangkhar Khochey who ruled Jamkhar at that time was identified legendarily as Ngangkhar Khochey Ama. She was astonishingly fine-looking that whoever fixed his eyes on her would dearth to sleep with her.

The Lady of Ngangkhar had an atypical personality imperfection. She would do anything for need of wealth and just beyond her husband’s territory, in Dhungro, was a well-off man called Dhungro Khochey. He has sufficient wealth to bring the Lady of Ngangkhar into his arms. He gave luxurious stuffs to her and she slept with him. They then created their secret unlawful business in the cave of Maentsangloong. This business went on for years until someone saw them and informed Ngangkhar Khochey.

Ngangkhar Khochey by this time knew that his Spouse was dishonest and planned what to do with his wife and her lover. However, the Lady knew that her husband knows about her affair with Dhungro Khochey and took an instant resolution. She cut out her pudendum and threw it across the Drangmi chhu. Her genital went in the air across the river and landed on the rock surface on the other side of the river bank.

Since then the rock surface acquired the inscription of Nangkhar Ama’s pudendum.

Legends say that, the Lady did so to evade a forthcoming war between the two men and in that prompt of self-accusation and guiltiness, she decided to do away with the very root of the delinquent. The story of her impressiveness still intrigues people in the region. And the crack on the rock face continues to captivate the observer. The Lady of Ngangkhar is still recollected for her popularity.

People say that courageousness of hers is why she became an existing fable and found herself an ineradicable habitation in the native folklore.

Flowering season at Tsenkhar

Flowers are the reproductive part of flowering plants. A flower is a special part of the plant. Flowers are also called the bloom or blossom of a plant. Flowers have petals. Inside the part of the flower that has petals are the parts which produce pollen and seedsIn all plants, a flower is usually its most colourful part. We say the plant 'flowers', 'is flowering' or 'is in flower' when this colourful part begins to grow bigger and open out. There are many different kinds of flowers in different areas in the world. Even in the coldest places, for example the Arctic, flowers can grow during a few months. Flowers may grow separately on the plant, or they may grow together in an inflorescence.

Darchen Lhakhang

Darchen Lhakhang is located in Toetsho gewog under Trashi yangtse Dzongkhag about three hours walk from Tsenkharla road point at the altitude of 2600 m above sea level. It was established by Ani Chorten Zangmo, the daughter of Tertoen Pemaling in 12th century. When Ani Chorten Zangmo lived at Shakshing hamlet where the current shakshing lhakhang stand, Ani Chorten Zangmo went for an excursion to the hill top above the shakshing and she reached at the location where current Darchen Lhakhang stands. When she reached there, she mediated for some hours and in the middle of her meditation, she saw a ferocious leopard (གཟིག) roaring to her but she offered no alarm to the leopard and carry on the meditation. Meanwhile the fierce leopard vanish and then she saw a beautiful girl with the scarf (དར) offering to her and then she disappear. Then Ani reflected the instance as the noble sign and then build a small hermitage to do mediation and she named the hermit as Darchen (Dar: Scarf and Chen: Leopard) as interrelated to the incident Ani came across.

Then Later during the reign of Jangphu Dungpa during first king renovated the ruin hermit into the temple which we can see today. The main relic of the temple is a copper bowl (Therpo) believe to be the butter lamp of eternity (Kapai Marmi) found and excavated from the place where the present Lake (Phurpa Lha Tsho) positions which is few distance away on the north of Darchen Lhakhang. Beside the old and significant relics inside the temple one can also able witness many important Nyes along the mountain ridges. We can also grasp three magnificent lakes two in the north of the temple (Yab Karpo Tsho and Phurpa Lha Tsho) and one in the south of the temples (Yum Marpo Tsho). The current caretaker of the temple is Mr. Kabula from shakshing under Khamdang geog.

Story of Dungkar Thang:

Dungkar Thang a beautiful place located few meters away from Doksum town toward Gomphu  Kora on the high way of Trashi Yangtse to Tashigang and on the side of Drangmi chu has beautiful story and we can also see two Dungkar(Conch) on the rock cliff opposite of Dungkar Thang other side of Drangmi chu.

The two Conch
It was said that at present location so called Dungkar Thang, there was a mortar made up of stone and inhabitants there had been using that stone mortar to husk the paddy. When people pound one bowl (བྲེ) of paddy, they used to get exactly one bowl (བྲེ) of rice. It was such blessing for the locality. As days passed by there was one man out of his cruel mind wants to own the stone mortar for himself. When he topple the stone mortar he saw two Dungkar (Conch) flew from the bottom of stone mortar and rested on the rock cliff other side of the present place called Dungkar Thang. Now a days on that site you will see some settlement which are occupied by the Public Work Division (PWD) workers. The Dungkar (Conch) which was rested on the cliff can be still seen from the road which is passed through Dungkar Thang. The name of the place inborn from that episode and is called as Dungkar Thang (Dungkar: Conch and Thang: Ground).

Stone Bowl of Khamdang, Trashi Yangtse

Stone Bowl at Khamdang
Khamdang village located in khamdang geog under Trashi Yangtse Dzongkhag which is on the sheer slope ridge. Its hold the old trail that connects Doksom to Trashi Yangste and Trashi Yangtse to the other parts of the region. If you want to travel from Doksum to khamdang on foot, you need to take an old track to reach your destination. The trail was the main route that was used by the upper part of Trashi Yangtse which passes through khamdang to reach other parts of Bhutan. When people start their journey from Doksum to Trashi Yangtse one need to hike the steep route through Khamdang. Moreover, as we can see these days also the scarcity of water in the locality make traveler difficult to pace their journey uphill to reached Shalli villge. They will get water only when they reached to Shalli.
During that time, there lived a powerful and wealthy man called Khamdang Leki Samdrup, who lived in khamdang. As a powerful and wealthy man in the locality and sighted the suffering and difficulties faced by the traveler, he took a generous resolution to keep locally fermented wine (བང་ཆང་།) on the trail. Then he made a stone bowl to store the fermented wine so that passers-by can have they share of drink to quench their thirst. His sympathetic effort has benefited and help thousands of traveler to gain energy and to quench their thirst, but as good action is always followed by bad, the trader who took the same route poison the fermented wine bowl and found dead whoever drink the wine from the bowl. From there onwards he discontinue keeping the fermented wine in the bowl and it was a loss for other traveler who took the trail in the later part.
Today, if you wants to see the stone Bowl, you need to take an old trail either to reached Khamdang or Doksum from either side and when you reach near Jarung Khashor Chorten (now it is ruin) you will be able to see that stone bowl used to stored fermented wine by Khandang Leki Samdrup.
